Intro

API Maker puts your whole backend in one panel. In the next few minutes, you will learn where everything lives, and how to reach any page in two keystrokes.

One panel instead of many tools

A typical backend team juggles a database client for every engine, an API tester, a server for cron jobs, a log viewer, and a vault for secrets. Each tool has its own login and its own habits. API Maker brings all of it into one panel, with one search, and one set of rules for who may see what.

Everything starts at the login card. The server draws the captcha, and each picture is good for one attempt only. Every request of the panel, even this sign in, travels through its own encrypted channel. And when your root user turns on two step login, the second factor is asked right here, for every account.

Welcome dashboard

After you sign in, you land on the welcome dashboard. Every page of API Maker sits in one of four panels. APIs and Logic holds your endpoints, events, jobs and tests. Security holds access, secrets and audits. Database holds schemas, indexes and migrations. And Operations holds monitoring, logs and deployment.

Search

You do not need to remember where a page lives. Just start typing, anywhere on the dashboard. Pages match by what they do, not only by their names, so cron finds Schedulers. Press Escape to clear the search, or Enter to open the match.

Menus

Open any page, for example Instance API. The four panels now become the four menus of the top bar. Each menu shows the same tiles, in the same order, so what you learned on the dashboard works everywhere. Escape closes it.

Command palette

From any page, press Command K, or Control K on Windows and Linux. Type index, press Enter, and you are on Index Maker. One list drives the dashboard, the menus and the palette, so a page is always in the same place.

User menu

Your account lives in the user menu, at the top right. Here you edit your profile, set up two step login under My Security, turn on real breakpoint debugging of your code, and create the token of the local client, which syncs your code with your own editor. User Info also holds your API path, your Git repository, and the database names you use on this server.

Tools

The top bar also carries your tools. Docs and Learning opens the documentation and the video tutorials. Console Logs View shows what your code prints, refreshed every few seconds while you test. And when a pull brings database migrations that have not run yet, a red icon appears right here, to run them.

Theme

Prefer light? One click switches the whole panel, code editors included, and one click brings the dark theme back. Your choice is remembered in this browser.

Roles

API Maker has three kinds of users. The root user runs the installation. It creates the admin accounts and sets the rules of every server. An admin owns an account, with its databases, APIs and secrets. And every developer gets a workspace of their own, made by the admin. Each role sees only the menus it needs.

Recap

That is the map. Four panels, and one search. Menus that keep the same order. Command K, from anywhere. Your account and your tools, at the top right. Next, we connect six databases and turn every table into an API. API Maker. Build faster, spend smarter, deliver better.
